Eel Trap Bridge

Revision Zero were engaged by the premier bridge fabricator in NZ to provide 3D modeling and structural steel detailing services for this award nominated pedestrian and bike bridge.

The design of the bridge is in the form of a hinaki (eel trap) and signifies the importance of this food source to the Maori’s in this area.

The hoops of the bridge were originally designed as BT’s rolled to form a hoop. Revision Zero in discussions with the fabricator determined that the BT’s would likely deform during rolling due to the tight radius of the hoop.

In conjunction with the fabricator a fabricated Tee was proposed and subsequently accepted by the structural engineer.
