Orica

In mid-2022, Revision Zero successfully concluded a project involving Orica’s Tertiary Abatement Plant at Kooragang Island, strategically positioned at the entrance to the Hunter Valley. Orica Kooragang Island is pivotal in the company’s global operations and contributes significantly to the local and broader Newcastle community.

The expansion project undertaken by Orica encompassed the enhancement of the existing Ammonium plant, construction of an additional Nitric Acid (NAP), and Ammonium Nitrate Plants (AN3), along with the development of support structures for ongoing operations. The Kooragang Island facility comprises an ammonia plant, three nitric acid plants, two ammonium nitrate plants, and a product dispatch facility. The ammonia manufacturing plant, utilising natural gas, produces approximately 360,000 tons of ammonia annually. This ammonia finds applications as a refrigerant and agricultural fertiliser, and it is integral to producing nitric acid and ammonium nitrate.

Revision Zero spearheaded this project, involving the meticulous creation of 3D models and the preparation of drawings for structural steelwork weighing around 32 tons, specifically for the tertiary nitrous oxide abatement initiative.

Within the scope of this expansion project, the designated work areas include:

  • Structural steel for NAP1 Stair Tower, Calibration Gas Bottle Shed, Cladding, Handrail & Grating
  • Structural steel for NAP2 Access Platform, along with Handrail & Grating
  • Structural steel for NAP3 Access Platform, complemented by Handrail & Grating

This endeavour showcases Revision Zero’s commitment to precision and excellence in 3D modelling and structural engineering and underlines the company’s dedication to playing a crucial role in major industrial expansions.
