Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre

2022 Excellence in Steel Awards Finalist

Revision Zero undertook a joint venture with a leading Christchurch-based fabricator for the supply of BIM Modelling and Detailing services for the Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre project in the last quarter of 2019. It is located within the bounds of Moorhouse Avenue, Stewart, St Asaph and Antigua Street in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The new facility will be the largest aquatic, indoor recreation and leisure venue in New Zealand that will cater for the everyday needs of educational, recreational, and high-performance sporting communities, including both local and international events. The facility will feature a 10-lane, 50-metre pool with 1,000 seats for spectators, a 20m by 25m diving pool, five hydro slides and several indoor courts for various sports and activities available and accessible to all.

This anchor project for the Christchurch rebuild required 4,500t of steel comprising large pipe columns, trussed roofs and 158 buckling restrained braces. Individual roof trusses were bolted together in the workshop to check the overall length and ensure they fit between the erected wall frames and confirm the pre-camber. Walls and roofs were all assembled on the ground on-site to reduce the amount of work at elevation.
