The Prominent Hill Expansion Project (PHOX) is a major mining development in South Australia, located approximately 650 km northwest of Adelaide near Coober Pedy and managed by BHP.

The project is focused on extending the life of the Prominent Hill copper, gold, and silver mine, while improving operational efficiency and sustainability.

A key component of PHOX is the construction of a new underground shaft exceeding 1,300 metres in depth, enabling access to previously unreachable ore bodies. The development also includes a high-capacity materials handling system designed to move approximately 6.5 million tonnes of ore annually. Supporting infrastructure such as underground primary crushers, truck loading chutes, and skip loading systems will significantly enhance the efficiency of ore movement.

Importantly, these upgrades will reduce reliance on diesel haulage, lowering fuel consumption, operating costs, and carbon emissions, while also improving productivity and supporting regional employment.

As part of this expansion, Revision Zero was engaged to deliver BIM construction construction modelling services. Our scope included:

• Structural steel detailing for approximately
  • 857 tonnes of steel
  • 890 linear metres of handrails
  • 1,604 square metres of grating
